Introduction
Zecnero (ZMR) is a proof of work cryptocurrency forked from Zcash. The node, zecnerod, is built on Zebra, the Rust implementation of the Zcash protocol. Zecnero keeps Zcash’s shielded pools and replaces Equihash with RandomX, so blocks can be mined on ordinary CPUs.
There was no premine and there is no dev fund. A small founder stream (3% of the block subsidy until the first halving) is enforced by consensus and paid to a published multisig. See Founder stream.
Status
The public testnet has been live since Sep 24 2026. Mainnet has not launched. It is planned for Q4 2026 and no date has been set.
Testnet coins have no value. Do not buy, sell or trade them. Testnet balances do not carry over to Mainnet.

What’s different from Zcash
- Proof of work. RandomX with a Zecnero-specific salt (
rx/zecnero). Mining is CPU-friendly and ASIC-resistant. - Block time. 75 seconds, with
aserti3-2ddifficulty adjustment anchored at genesis. - Supply. About 21 million ZMR, a 6.25 ZMR starting subsidy, halving every 1,680,000 blocks and no tail emission.
- Pools. Transparent, Sapling and Orchard. Sprout is disabled.
- Reorg limit. Nodes refuse reorganisations deeper than 20 blocks.
The full list is on the Protocol parameters page.
